The Unaffordable Onesie!!

So my crafting adventure started out with making freezer paper stencils for onesies with my friend Suzanne. What is turned into was being able to have my unaffordable onesie in a different manner.

Okay so on Etsy there are these ohh soo cute onesies that say 5 months, 6 months, etc... and I wanted them for Bailey really bad.  I mean really bad.  But they ran like $40.00 plus for 1-6 months and another $40.00 plus for the 7-12 months as seen HERE.  I do not by any means want to de-value the time and skills of the maker because they are beautiful, and if I had the money maybe I too would buy them but right now, they are too expensive.  So I accepted that Bailey would not have them and just took regular monthly photos as seen HERE.

So a little about the freezer paper method (thank you to Suzanne):

1)  Take freezer paper (bought in the grocery store) and trace any pattern onto it, either something you draw by hand, print off the computer, etc...

2) Using an exacto knife cut out the parts you want to paint in.

3) Iron it onto the onesie (make sure to iron on any little pieces inside- also a note: cutting stickers or masking tape out works great for blocking paint out of the small little spaces when making letters and designs).

4) Paint anywhere you want paint with fabric paint.

5) Peel stickers off (or wait till the end if you want them white)
6) You can use stencils to do other shapes on top, and presto!!
**It works best to wash the onesie first.

This is how it turns out, I think it looks pretty nice (I messed up a little on one part, but ohwell!).  Instead of costing a lot, it only cost a couple dollars for the onesie and a couple for the paint (which I will use many times).  I will do different designs every month with the same font lettering and placement.

These are some other ones I did: (the intricate one is done with stencils)  I am still working on some others (and one that is not pictured has a "B" for Bailey on it!).  My other ideas: a skyline with buildings (the architectural side in me), a present for a baby shower (another name shirt), and some possible chinese letters (like peace, dream, etc...)

Also that day we made some $2.00 "Baby leg warmers" from knee socks from Target:  That was fun, but I still need to sew the bottoms (maybe next week, they are super cute though and cheap!!) All you do is get the knee socks and cut the bottoms off and hem them, that is all, so easy!

Here is a picture of Suzanne's youngest son Baby Bug and Bailey; he is her little boyfriend, well one of a couple :) !!

Marvelous Mondays-The beautiful sky

I am always thankful when I see these...
They make me think of many things.
When I was a child and thought that there was an end of the rainbow, with a pot of gold.
They make me think of happiness and new beginnings.
All the beautiful colors, each created.
They make me think of happy times.
A picture does not do this justice.
I can not help but smile when I see these.
This was Bailey's first rainbow, I hope we see many more.
Beautiful.

Life Changes Perspective...

Life Changes Perspective
Bailey has changed the person whom I was in very many ways.
I think about her all the time.
To me, thinking about her all the time, is well, natural.
I do not think a moment goes by where she does not pass my mind.I thought about before she was born, before I was pregnant with her,
I really did not worry about anyone.
I could leave and it was just me, of course, with my husband and family on my mind.
Now, things have changed, my mind has shifted.
Everywhere I go and everything I do, I am thinking about her.
I would not have it any other way.
This is my life.
She is mine, mine to care for, mine to love, and protect.
I worry about her, want to protect her from harm, want to love her forever.
I can not imagine not thinking about her.
I think about happiness, Bailey continually is my thought.
I am a Mom, I do not think there will ever be a day where she is not on my mind.
I do not think I will ever not worry about her.
There will never be a day that I do not love her.
She will always be on my mind, and that is my happiness.

A Proud Daughter

Ever since I was a little girl my Dad has been there for me.  He has always made sure his family was taken care of, even if it meant he would be working all hours and days.  He made it possible for my Mom to stay home with us as we were growing up.  I have always been very proud of my Dad, we may not always get along, but I know if I need something or when it comes down to it, he is there.  He always tries hard to make sure we all have everything we need.  He helped all 3 of us get through college (we all have degrees now, with thanks to my Dad and my Mom).  He has helped me countless times to pursue my career aspirations.  He encourages me to set high goals for myself and to never give up.  I speak my mind thank you to his influence.  Although sometimes that is well, just an okay trait!  He has become a amazing grandpa with Bailey!  We appreciate his help more than we can thank him.

In the past year he has embarked on the road to becoming fit, and losing a lot of weight.  I am more than thrilled with his success, because this is a long journey, and a hard one to embark on.  He has been working really hard at it.

Today, Bailey, Tony, and I went to watch him run a 10K (6.2 miles).
We waited at the finish line, and were proud to see him run through.
Congratulations Dad, thanks for always being a great Dad.

Coming to the finish line

Way to go Dad!

Being a Mom Maa...

I am so very proud and excited...I just can not hold it in...

Bailey said Mom Maaaa (I write it like this because that is how she said it)!!  Yes!  It was in the car yesterday as we were driving she was complaining (go figure) to get out of her seat.  Then loud and clear she was like Mom Maaaa!!  My husband looked at me and we were like she just said momma.   That was the first time she said it well and understandable.  She makes a lot of "m" sounds but this was clear.  My husband then jokingly  said "That does not count because she only said it once!" Then proceeded to tell me that he was kidding!

Then later in the day my husband was holding her at the family party we were at and she yelled out in front of everyone "Mom Maaaa"!  Everyone looked at her and said, "She just yelled Momma".  My face lit up with a huge smile and I told her she was the cutest thing in the world along with many kisses and hugs, she thought I was funny!!

I know she does not know what she is saying yet, but I am sure proud.  She is growing up, and her Mom Maaaa  is forever proud.

Very Happy for my Best Friend!

When I was 9 years old my parents moved us from Northern California to Southern California.  My Dad had been commuting for a job and was only seeing us on the weekends, he was working very long hours and this was best for our family.  We moved to Ventura and started school in January of my fourth grade year (January 1990).  I did not know anyone, I was starting up school in the middle of the school year, and as I do not remember much, I know that I was scared.  Scared of a new place, scared I would not fit in and more scared because I did not know anyone.

I meet a very special person at school on my first day.  This person welcomed me with open arms.  She invited me to eat lunch with her, play with her at recess.  All very big things when you are in school.  This person, 20 years later is still my very best friend.  We have had our ups and downs, but when I think of this person I just remember every fun and happy moment we have shared.  I wish I had my pictures scanned (and maybe I will add them later) of us always dressing like "twins", telling everyone we were sisters (cause we were you know), always swapping clothes, going over to each others houses whenever we could, going to girl scouts together, Medieval Times (how can I forget- we were all dressed up), yes there was also the russian singing, and of course Bobby McGees.  This person knows me well, we have watched each other grow.  Her friendship, no matter how long the gap, always picks up the second we left off.

Now, we see each other often (not often enough).  I can say without a doubt she is my best friend, she always has been.  She really genuinely cares for the people around her.  She has taught me so many things.

I was overly excited a few months back when she approached me and told me that her and her husband were going to be adopting a child from Rwanda.  I just remember almost crying and hugging her!  I knew something was going on when she called me and told me that we had to talk in person (we both are very busy!).  I am over joyed for her and her family.  I want nothing but good things for her.  She deserves to have the best.  I hope this process brings her much happiness and I am glad to be a part of it with her.  You can check out their adventure HERE.

I will always appreciate the day the girl with the beautiful long hair and dress came up to me and said, "Hello my name is Maddie, do you want me to show you around?"  Thank you Maddie for being my first friend here, my best friend.
